AIA Fast Start Convention 2025: A Three-Part Spectacle Across Sydney
The Funktionality Events team recently delivered a 3-part, extraordinary multi-venue experience for AIA’s Fast Start Convention 2025, hosting over 650 international delegates from Hong Kong and China. The event showcased the very best of Sydney, its sophistication and iconic harbour views through a seamless blend of conferencing, harbour cruising and a festival with a sit-down dinner and vibrant entertainment.
The Fast Start Convention was designed to engage, inspire, and entertain delegates through three unique event experiences, each offering its own atmosphere and purpose.
The Conference
The convention began with a formal afternoon conference at the ICC Sydney Grand Ballroom, where Funktionality transformed the space with custom Australiana theming and bespoke branded décor. Delegates were welcomed with a Welcome to Country and dance performance by a professional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance clan, setting a meaningful tone for the day.
With an outstanding stage design optimised for keynotes and presentations, branded media walls and tailored AV coordination, the setting reflected AIA’s global professionalism while incorporating a distinctly Australian aesthetic. Guests were also invited to interact with some local animals at their very own reptile zoo and take photos with a custom branded AIA Land Rover.
The Cruise
Following the conference, delegates embarked on a luxury harbour cruise aboard Starship Sydney. Every single detail was meticulously thought out, customised, themed and branded to create a completely immersive experience with the AIA brand at the centre. Not only was the outside of the boat wrapped in AIA branding and the inside decaled in the style of “Ocean Fantasia”, but Funktionality also installed AIA flags across Pyrmont Bridge as an extra special surprise and striking brand moment as the vessel passed through Darling Harbour.
The cruise offered guests a chance to unwind and connect, taking in breathtaking views of the Sydney skyline while enjoying a premium hospitality experience that reinforced AIA’s message of celebration and excellence.
The Festival
As the sun set, delegates arrived at Watersedge Sydney Harbour for a spectacular open-air dinner and their own personal AIA festival under the stars. Funktionality delivered an unforgettable finale featuring custom staging, neon signage and a vibrant showcase of various International celebrity singers. Guests were also greeted and entertained by Mad Max-inspired choreographed dancers, on-theme face painters, acrobats and stunt performers, a juggler and stilt walkers. Another highlight was the 3-tiered, 45kg AIA-branded cake that was crafted specially for the gala and handled carefully by the event team.
However, nothing could beat the grand finale – we orchestrated a jetpack water stunt show complete with professional stunt men shooting fireworks from their LED suits, culminating in a large fireworks display over Sydney Harbour that was perfectly framed by the Sydney Opera House, also courtesy of Funktionality.
